Located on the banks of Shoal Creek, one of two primary waterways traveling through Austin to the Colorado River, Belmont Park consists of two weathered douglas fir clad volumes which rise from the creek bank on a flush limestone plinth. The wood volumes are connected by a transparent living room bridge and a manmade canyon-scape below, through which a Moorish inspired runnel directs captured water to the creek.

One can enter the home from an elevated walkway at the upper level or pass below the bridge traveling alongside the runnel to a lower-level dog run. The canyon-scape celebrates the management of captured water, natural topography and their relationship to the creek below.

As much rough hewn as it is refined, the character of the home appeals to one owner’s affinity for a rustic ranch-like aesthetic while satisfying the orderly, minimalist tendencies of the other.
